Coatings are usually applied to plastic substrates in a single layer. High-quality metallic pigments, often in combination with other effect pigments (pearlescent, gold-bronze, Aloxal), are used to achieve striking designs. Encapsulated aluminium pigments (e.g. Stapa® Hydrolan) are also used when the coating to be produced has to provide electrical insulation.
