Protection against algae and fungal growth
Highly efficient insulation systems often lead to problems regarding the condensation water at the outside of the buildings.
The reason is the surface temperature of well-insulated buildings which can fall below the air temperature due to the heat emission to the surroundings and especially to the cold sky at night.
The consequences are algae growth and a greenish discolouration of the facade, an optical degradation of the building and, in the long term, a damage to the structure of the building.
As an alternative to toxic biocides, ECKART recommends special IR active metallic pigments in low-e façade paints. They reduce the cooling of the surface of the building and result in a reduction of condensation water.
