This overview focuses on two key products from ECKART: the high-strength A20X aluminum alloy and the versatile AMspheres product line which includes Al, Ti, and Cu alloy powders.
A20X: High-Strength Aluminum Alloy for Additive Manufacturing
A20X is acknowledged as a premier aluminum alloy for additive manufacturing. Created and patented by AMT Ltd., it is based on the aerospace-grade A205 alloy and is noted for its superior high-temperature performance and fatigue resistance.
Key Features of A20X
High Strength and Temperature Performance
A20X can achieve a tensile strength of over 500 MPa and a yield strength in excess of 440 MPa, with an elongation at fracture of up to 13% after heat treatment. This makes it suitable for high-strength applications where other aluminum alloys, like AlSi10Mg, are insufficient.
Microstructure and Processability
The unique solidification mode of A20X results in a high-density, crack-free, and non-dendritic microstructure. This alloy achieves a density greater than 99.7% in Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) processes without the need for additional Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) and exhibits similar processability characteristics to AlSi10Mg.
Compatibility and Approvals
A20X is compatible with all leading LPBF equipment and, having been approved for use in aerospace applications, is used in serial production of flying components. A20X is a versatile choice for various high-performance applications, including aerospace, space, defense, and high-end automotive industries.
AMspheres: Versatile Metal Powders for Additive Manufacturing
The AMspheres product line offers a range of metal powders tailored for different AM processes, including Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), Electron Beam Melting (EBM), Laser Cladding, Metal Injection Molding (MIM), and more. These powders are produced using advanced gas atomization techniques, ensuring high purity and spherical particles.
Key Products in the AMspheres Line
Titanium Alloys
Known for its high strength-to-weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance, Ti64, which is offered as grade 5 and grade 23, is widely used in aerospace, biomedical implants, and high-performance applications. It is compatible with various AM processes such as LPBF, binder jetting, cold spray, MIM, laser cladding, DED, and EBM.
In addition to the workhorse material Ti64, ECKART TLS offers a variety of high-performance Ti alloys such as Ti6242, Ti6246, Ti5553, Ti13Nb13Zr, and Ti6Al7Nb.
Copper Powders
AMspheres copper powders, including Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity Copper and CuCrZr, are valued for their high electrical and thermal conductivity. These powders are used in heat exchangers, electronics, and induction coils.
Zirconium Powders
Highly resistant to corrosion and heat, zirconium powders are used in applications like pyrotechnics, aerospace, medical, and defense. ECKART TLS offers Zr702 and Zr705 powders produced through the EIGA method, ensuring high purity and excellent sphericity.
Aluminum Powders
Common alloys like AlSi10Mg and AlSi7Mg are used for their high corrosion resistance and moderate mechanical strength, making them suitable for prototyping and serial production in aerospace and automotive industries. ECKART TLS also offers wrought alloy powders such as 6061 and 7075, as well as special aluminum alloy powders such as AlSi40 and AlSi50 which combine high thermal conductivity with low thermal expansion.
