ECKART Update on the Sustainability Profile of Metallic Inks in Graphic Arts and Packaging

The ECKART Sustainability Update “Metallic Inks on Packaging” examines the recyclability of metallic printing inks in packaging applications. The focus was on the sortability of metallic-printed plastic packaging in NIR-based recycling processes as well as the deinkability of silver and gold metallic inks. Test results based on recognized standards show that, with an appropriate design-for-recycling approach—depending on substrate, surface coverage, and print design—metallic inks are fundamentally recyclable and allow high-quality packaging effects to be combined with sustainable circular economy processes.
